About the World Congress

The purposes of the Congress are to stimulate corporate awareness and interest in risk-related research and to provide a forum for networking among academics and industry and government professional worldwide. Congress is open to "all persons" who share an interest in promoting education and research in the broad areas of risk and insurance. Except for their interest in the conference, preferably in the form of presenting a paper, no criteria are established for participant qualifications. European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists (EGRIE), Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA), The American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) and The Geneva Association jointly organize the meetings.

Inaugural Meeting at Salt Lake City, USA, in 2005. ARIA hosted the meeting, which attracted 328 participants from over 30 countries. There were presentations of 127 academic papers. Invited speakers also shared their views in six plenary sessions.

Second Meeting at Paris, France, in 25-29 July 2010. EGRIE and The Geneva Association host the meeting.

Third Meeting at Singapore in 2015. APRIA will host the meeting.

Developments (2003 ~ 2008)

On March 22, 2002, representatives of the four associations met in Hartford, USA, to explore the feasibility of and steps necessary for this global gathering.  They later secured approval from their respective boards and members. They met again in Paris, France, on December 9, 2002, to become officially joint organizers and to create the Organization Committee, charged with overseeing the conference. Members of the Organization Committee met in Denver, USA, during 2003 ARIA meeting. They finalized members for the Scientific Committee, responsible mainly for reviewing proposals and creating  conference program contents. Members of the Organization Committee met in Paris, France. They finalized the Call for Papers, formulated the general format of the Conference Program, and discussed how to make this event viewed valuable by every participant. They also agreed on offering Financial Travel Aid to qualified participants.

After the first meeting in 2005, all societies agreed to have the event every five years.  They have created 2010 Organization Committee in 2006 as a stepping stone for the 2010 conference in Paris. In 2008, the Organization Committee helps each society finalize its own Scientific Committee.
